As we continue our group-by-group round-up of the World Cup, we turn our attention to Group D. The group gets underway on Tuesday and includes reigning world champions, France as well as Australia, Tunisia and dark horses, Denmark. Our preview of the group will feature the very best odds from our betting partners at William Hill.

  • World Cup best: Winners (1998, 2018)
  • FIFA World Ranking: 4th
  • World Cup odds: 15/2

Holders, France are amongst the favourites to win a third World Cup in Qatar but their preparations have been hampered by a host of injuries to some key players. Didier Deschamps side must do without Karim Benzema, Paul Pogba, N'Golo Kante, Christopher Nkunku, Presnel Kimpembe and Mike Maignan.

France have not been in great form recently. An underwhelming UEFA Nations League campaign means they head to Qatar with just one win in their last six matches.

Kylian Mbappe will be key to France's hopes of glory. The PSG forward already has 28 goals in 59 appearances. Mbappe is 7/1 to win the Golden Boot or 11/1 to claim the Golden Ball (the tournament's best player award).

  • World Cup best: Round of 16 (2006)
  • FIFA World Ranking: 38th
  • World Cup odds: 400/1

Australia reached this year's World Cup after defeating Peru in an inter-confederation play-off. The Socceroos had previously finished a distant third in their AFC qualification group behind Saudi Arabia and Japan. Australia have won four and drawn one of their last five internationals.

Former Brighton and Arsenal goalkeeper, Mathew Ryan will captain Australia whilst Mathew Leckie in the only squad member to have hit double figures for international goals.

  • World Cup best: Quarter Final (1998)
  • FIFA World Ranking: 10th
  • World Cup odds: 28/1

After a successful Euros and an equally-impressive World Cup qualification campaign, Denmark head to Qatar as dark horses for the tournament. In Euro 2020, Denmark took England to extra-time in their semi-final before romping to nine wins from their ten World Cup qualifiers.

Denmark's most recent fixture was a 2-0 Nations League win over France. The Danes beat France home and away as they were just pipped to a Nations League finals spot by Croatia.

  • World Cup best: Group Stage (1978, 1998, 2002, 2006, 2018)
  • FIFA World Ranking: 30th
  • World Cup odds: 300/1

The final side in Group D is Tunisia who have qualified for their second successive World Cup. Tunisia survived a scare in the second round of qualification after losing their penultimate game to Equatorial Guinea. Tunisia progresses thanks to a 3-1 win over Zambia as Equatorial Guinea were held to a 1-1 draw at Mauritania in the final round of group games.

In their two-legged play-off, Tunisia edged past Mali 1-0 on aggregate to reach their sixth World Cup.

Tunisia's only defeat in their last nine matches came against Brazil as the national team has shown signs of real improvement in the second half of the year.

Two of the key members of the Tunisian squad play their club football in Qatar including captain, Youssef Msakni and Ferjani Sassi.
